artist statement

My work is an exploration of lived experience. I consider how a body can look “normal” and healthy but hide chronic pain, illness, and a tormented mind; how trauma sticks in memory and emerges at inopportune times; and how emotions like despair and loneliness remain stigmatized and hidden in society. These experiences leave traces that cannot always be articulated with words.

Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, I work quickly and intuitively. I use brushes and palette knives as well as my own body, primarily my hands, to move and shape the mediums on the surface. Texture, layering, and repetition play a central role in my practice, allowing each piece to evolve over time as a record of endurance, vulnerability, and adaptation.

I approach abstraction as a way of translating internal states into physical form. Rather than seeking resolution, I am interested in honesty, inviting the viewer to regard the work as open, imperfect, and responsive to change.
